Jay Hoying, Ph.D. is the chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Therapeutics at the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute (CII) and a professor in the Departments of Surgery and Physiology & Biophysics at the University of Louisville. He has over 25 years of experience in basic and applied biological sciences with a focus in vascular biology and vascular repair. He holds a number of patents related to growing and manipulating capillaries in the laboratory and cell-based therapies.

Before coming to CII in 2007, Dr. Hoying was an associate professor in the Division of Biomedical Engineering in the Arizona Research Laboratories at the University of Arizona, as well as co-founder and co-director of the Genomics Research Laboratory (GRL).

He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology and Molecular Biology from Case Western Reserve University, and his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from the University of Arizona.

Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Arizona, Dr. Hoying was a new investigator in the National Institutes of Health Program of Excellence in Molecular Biology of the Heart and Lung (POEMB) in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Cincinnati. He currently serves on the editorial staff of two national scientific journals and regularly reviews manuscripts for a number of other journals. He routinely reviews grant proposals for the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Affairs, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Hoying is a Fellow of the American Heart Association.
