CII’s Islet Laboratory Directors organized Islet Auto-Transplant Workshop at the 2017 American Transplant Congress in Chicago

The University of Louisville Cardiovascular Innovation Institute’s Islet Transplant Program directors, Balamurugan Appakalai PhD., and transplant surgeon, Michael Hughes M.D., recently organized and moderated Islet Auto-Transplantation workshop at the 2017 American Transplant Congress (ATC) in Chicago, IL (April 30, 2017).


The event was sponsored by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and is designed to provide the most current information in the field of transplant science, which includes clinical and research aspects of solid organ and tissue transplantation.  The workshop was titled “Optimizing Outcomes and Access for Islet Auto-Transplantation” which focused on maximizing islet yield from chronic pancreatitis pancreases that are intended for auto-transplantation.
