Steven C. Koenig , Ph.D.
Professor of Bioengineering and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
Steven Koenig, Ph.D., has 16 years of experience with biomedical instrumentation, transducers, data acquisition and analysis. Since joining the University of Louisville in 1996, Dr. Koenig has developed eight data acquisition systems and physiologic data acquisition (LabVIEW) and analysis (MATLAB) software for hemodynamic monitoring, recording and analysis in support of IACUC-approved large animal models and IRB-approved clinical protocols.
Dr. Koenig developed the engineering component of UofL’s Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) program by authoring standard operating procedures (SOP), implementing a calibration and maintenance program and completing instrumentation calibration procedures. These developments resulted in FDA approval for clinical trials of the AbioCor™ implantable replacement heart at Jewish Hospital.
Dr. Koenig’s research program has been funded by organizations such as the Whitaker Foundation, the American Heart Association and NIH SBIR program.
This funding has resulted in 52 peer-reviewed publications, 18 conference proceedings, four book chapters, 60 abstracts, five technical reports, three U.S. patents and three invention disclosures (patents pending).
